New year, new everything…

You know how every year we make the same resolution? We promise ourselves that this year is going to be our year. Well ladies and gentlemen; “This year will be my year!”  I have taken a three year hiatus from content creating and now I am back (some of you might be familiar with my Instagram blog; The Curvy Capetonian). I feel that I have grown both as a creative and as an individual and I am finally ready to introduce my baby to the world. So everyone this is; Atypical Lifestyle Blog. Not a typical lifestyle blog, it is a brand that I have birthed through much thought and consideration. No one tells how hard it is to find a name that is available for copyright and domain purposes. And no one tells you how hard it is to find an aesthetic and a niche. But, I believe I am older and (somewhat) wiser now, and if my ADHD permits, I will try my utmost to provide a consistent flow of content and blog articles. This brainchild is somewhat a dream in making. But, enough chitter chatter, let’s get on with real important stuff.

Personal style; the ever changing, ever evolving form of self-expression. So, if it serves a form of self-expression, then your style should, naturally, change right? If that is the case then why are some of us sporting the same hairstyle we had ten years ago? And why are your favorite go-to outfits still the same as five seasons ago? I can tell you why… Though style is a human being’s most natural mode of creativity most people become entrapped in a state of ‘comfort’.  We become comfortable, and comfortable feels safe. I’ll spend moths admiring a haircut but never actually work up the courage to get it. I’ll troll a blogger’s Instagram, desiring every piece of clothing, but never actually buying it. Well, that is about to change.

Like many-a-fashion-lover, I have convinced myself that black I wear black everyday because it’s chic and sophisticated.  Though, to a measure, that might be true, it has just served as an excuse for me to hide and go unnoticed. So, no more… I intend on challenging myself to wear any and every color known to man. This is the year to stop mourning. And, to start living life in full color, literally. I admit that it will most definitely be a hit and miss. But, you only live once and the last thing I want is to be lying on my death bed wondering why I was not more daring. So, here’s to the year of new things; new countries, new clothing, new hairstyle, new risks, new friends… Let’s open ourselves up to the possibility of ‘newness’ and everything it has to offer.

Here’s the year of the new you!
